Getting used to wearing glasses

Author: 6neat

Ever since the 17th century, glasses have been worn in different forms like monocles, eyeglasses, pince-nez's etc. Thee were worn on ribbons or on handles and were brought to the eye when needed. At other times they were tucked and hidden because wearing glasses was not the done thing. However they were used as fashion accessories.
Today glasses are both fashion accessories and functional tools. They have been accepted by society as simple and useful devices that aid in better sight. However like everything else in life, getting used to wearing glasses is important.
Glasses are a prosthetic device that helps in improving sight without the need for any invasive surgery or complicated procedures.
Getting used to wearing glasses involves several small adjustments on part of the wearer.
In getting used to wearing glasses, one of the first things that the person has to get used to is the weight of something on the nose and ears. Often people complain of soreness around the ears and nose even though today's glasses are light weight. Generally in a couple of days the wearer gets used to it, however if the frame is tight then it will need to be adjusted to fit properly.
Another point in getting used to wearing glasses is the eyes adjusting to the lenses. For most people, the eyes are used to working in a specific way, as weak as they may be, and wearing glasses changes that. They have to get used to looking through lenses and focussing in a different way. This can sometimes result in headaches and dizziness, which is a temporary state. If the headaches continue, a visit to the doctor is a must.
In getting used to wearing glasses one also needs to get used to remember to wear the glasses when needed. This is often a problem with new wearers and they continue to strain their eyes. If it isn't too much of a fashion issue, then in the beginning the glasses can be worn around the neck to be accessible at all times.
One also needs to get used to taking care of the glasses. This involves keeping them clean using warm soap water and a soft cloth (using paper, even tissue paper can scratch the lenses). When getting used to wearing glasses one also has to remember not to leave them around places where they could get stepped on, or people could sit on them and break them.
Those who need glasses to see better truly appreciate how important they are. Thus instead of thinking of them as a bother and added responsibility one should try getting used to wearing glasses and seeing the world clearly and in focus!
