Side effects of wearing glasses

Author: 6neat

Ever since the development of glasses in the 12th-13th centuries, they have helped people with their sight. As technology improved and materials became more easily accessible, people started recognising and accepting the benefits of wearing glasses. They realised what a practical and simple method they were of improving eyesight and vision.
Glasses have benefited millions of people around the world. However, like any thing that has its benefits, there are side effects of wearing glasses too.
The side effects of wearing glasses can be described more as limitations, since no adverse effects have been identified as such. If glasses have been prescribed to you, then they are benefiting you by aiding you in improved vision.
Many people think that one side effect of wearing glasses is weakening your eyes and becoming dependent on them to the extent you can't function without them. This however is untrue. What happens is that your eyes are unable to see clear and focussed images and wearing glasses rectifies that. Wearing them constantly doesn't make your eyes weak or make you dependent. All that happens is that your eyes get used to seeing clearly.
Another side effect of wearing glasses that people consider is the indentation of the bridge of the nose. This was true when glasses used to be heavy and thick framed. The weight on the nose over several years could cause an indentation. However, today frames are light and glasses aren't as heavy as they were.
Some women think that one side effect of wearing glasses is that they don't get as much attention from men, and that they become less attractive. There is no evidence to prove this, and in fact men find women in glasses pretty attractive.
The other side effects of wearing glasses are more drawbacks. These include not being able to play physical contact sports or sports that have a lot of running and movement due to them falling off or breaking and also not being able to swim with glasses on. Another drawback could be that glasses tend to get dirty pretty often and so you have to be constantly cleaning them. They also get scratches more often.
More side effects of wearing glasses are that they do not offer peripheral vision to the wearer. On side effect could be that wearing glasses in the rain can be difficult on the vision due to water on the lens.
However no matter what the side effects of wearing glasses maybe, they are far outweighed by the benefits. After all, seeing better is definitely a huge benefit!
