Wearing glasses problems

Everyone today wears glasses. These could be either prescription glasses or sunglasses or even clear glass on frames for the fashion quotient. Children and adults alike need to wear glasses as do both men and women.
Glasses have been around for several centuries, although not in the modern design. Earlier they were worn around ribbons in the form of eyeglasses or pince-nez's. These were convenient for those times because glasses weren't worn in public to read. Thus, keeping them on ribbons or on lateral handles allowed them to be used when needed, and at other times could be tucked away out of sight.
Today however, there is no such stigma attached to wearing glasses. Glasses are the latest in fashion. They are available in a huge range of colours, patterns and designs.
Glasses have been accepted as very practical and effective aids to improving sight. Everyone who has weak eyes rely on glasses to see well. However, like anything that has benefits, there are drawbacks too.
For people wearing glasses, problems exist, not with improved vision, but in some other areas.
One problem that those who wear glasses face is with peripheral vision. Because the current design of glasses has lenses in the front, it allowed for corrective action only when a person looks in the front. There is no corrective vision for the peripheries.
Also, for people wearing glasses, problems could be in relation to movement i.e. during sports or vigorous exercise there is the high chance of the glasses falling down and/or breaking. Swimming is also difficult wearing glasses.
Another common problem faced by those who wear glasses is that of glare. Several times in bright light, both the sun and artificial light, there is a glare on the glass lenses and this makes viewing things difficult.
One problem with wearing glasses is also that they tend to get dirty quite a lot and this means that the wearer has to be diligent in keeping them clean.
Also wearing glasses is difficult in the rains since they tend to get splattered with water, making for poor visibility.
Earlier when glasses were heavy with thick frames, there was a chance that over time, there could be an indentation on the bridge of the nose. Today however that is reduced due to lightweight material being used.
Those who wear glasses also say that because of the glasses they cannot lie on their side when reading or watching TV comfortably because the frame digs into their skin.
For people wearing glasses, problems might exist but the advantages far outweigh the drawbacks. And then you always have contact lenses to use in times when glasses aren't practical.
