Wearing plastic frames

Author: 6neat

Gone are the days of bulky, relatively ugly looking eyeglasses. No more do we have to choose between a thick black frame and thick brown frames for our glasses. Today, we have as many options when it comes to choosing what type of glasses we want to wear as we have when it comes to clothes. Every big designer does glasses- sunglasses and prescription glasses frames. You don't have to go to the doctor for frames anymore. You have speciality stores that sell only frames for glasses. This is proof enough of the popularity of glasses and the fashion statement they are considered to be now.
Modern eyeglass frames are available in a staggering range of choices. There are choices of course for colour and design, ranging from simple to the flamboyant, depending on your taste and budget. There are also special frames available for children with safety latches. There also happen to be special hypoallergenic frames for those with allergies. And then there is the obvious metal or plastic choice for frames.
Today, frames for glasses are being preferred in plastic more than metal. Wearing plastic frames have several advantages over metal frames. To begin with they are much lighter than metal frames and less cumbersome to wear. Secondly they are available in a larger variety of designs and colours. Wearing plastic frames is the latest thing in eyewear.
When wearing plastic frames, one can choose from many types. The most common type of plastic used to make frames is Zylonite, commonly known as Zyl. It is available in almost every colour possible. It is also available in various textures and patters and is lightweight, cost effective and a favourite with manufacturers.
When wearing plastic frames another popular choice is Polycarbonate. This is because this plastic is extremely impact resistant, thus making it popular for children's frames, sports glasses and for protection/safety glasses.
Another plastic that is used in plastic frames is Nylon. Today blended nylons are used to make plastic frames. Nylon frames are very light in weight and also extremely durable. Nylon frames also have the benefit of being mouldable into various styles like wrap around etc.
Propionate is another plastic that a lot of people wearing plastic frames use since it is hypoallergenic. Another hypoallergenic material used in plastic frames is Optyl.
Some other plastics that are used in making plastic frames for glasses include Kevlar.
Although plastic frames are more desired, there are some drawbacks too. Plastic frames break more easily than metal frames. Also they can melt due to fire though they aren't easily ignited.
So though there are some limitations to plastic frames, on the whole, they have ushered in a new era for eyewear fashions and attractiveness.
